Dear Students, It has been observed many times that the questions about the National Parks has been asked in almost every GK section of competitive exams like Railways, Banking ,SSC. Especially the examinations conducted by the UPSC. They have an uncommon trend to ask at least one question on the location of protected areas in India. The problem for aspirants is the large number of these protected areas in the country therefore it makes little tough for them to remember. Few Facts about National Parks in India

  • The first National Park in India was established prior to Independence in 1936. Which is now known as the Jim Corbett National Park (earlier it was Hailey National Park) situated in Uttarakhand.
  • In addition to previous statement , As of July 2018, there were 104 national parks encompassing an area of 40,501 km2 (15,638 sq mi), under protected areas of India category II comprising 1.23% of India’s total surface area.
