GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is one the most important and in-demand entrance exam for engineering graduates in our country. Over 9 lakh candidates appear for GATE every year and very few of them manage to pass the exam with good score. If you are one of among those 9 lakh appearing candidates who thinks coaching classes are the only doorway to crack the GATE, then you are wrong.

Now you must be thinking about how to prepare for GATE without coaching?

There are many even more than 50% candidates who have not taken any classes still managed to crack the GATE with good score.  We will share some useful tips and tricks that will help you in preparing for GATE.

Be an Early Bird

Time is money, so spend it wisely. If you are starting without coaching, you have to start bit early and starting early always works in favor. Starting early has its own benefits as you get enough time for revision. The best time is starts in Pre final year if you are planning to appear in final year or immediate after final year. About 30 to 40 hours of effective self-study is required to crack the exam and score success

Analyse GATE syllabus: 

The first and the foremost step that one need to take while preparing for GATE  is to know GATE syllabus. GATE tends to have a very vast syllabus, and hence it remains of prime importance to look at the past trends in terms of weight age of a particular subject (last 10 years of GATE exam) so that the right priority order of preparation can be made. Just pick one of the subjects you feel good and start the preparation.

Design Study Plan

Once you know what all topics need to be covered, you can devise your own plan. Go to the details of the syllabus and make a schedule and follow it at any cost, literally.  From July to November, you must focus on completing the GATE syllabus. After November, practice sample papers and previous years questions papers. Keep the last couple of months for revision. 

Take successively notes while studying: 

Note down the important points in notebook while covering the topics. A formula note book should be created for easy revision during the last minute of preparation.  It’s important for you to identify the books that need to be referred for the preparation for GATE. “The theoretical and numerical portions should be prepared together

Subjects easy to score:

There are few subjects which are easier to score, Identify those subjects and prepare them well. Try not to leave these subjects uncovered as they are high scoring and will help to boost your GATE rank.

Stay motivated and determined

Just making a preparation plan will not do. In GATE need to have a dedication that is steady throughout the preparation time period. You may feel bushed and tired, take breaks and come back to your preparation(Remember to solve one single paper in one sit like we do in real exam). Try avoiding social media and other distraction until your exams. make sure you are motivated to reach your goal.

Go for Online Mock Tests

At this final stage of preparation, Attempt a lot of mock tests,

practicing quality questions before attempting actual GATE will boost your confidence and improve your problem-solving speed. Questions in these Mock Test resembles with GATE actual questions and will give the GATE aspirants trailer before the Film.

Revision is a Must

In last few days, revise only your short notes + formula notebook + mistake of mocks as many times as possible.
